Google AI Targets Misinformation in Otto Smear

Google AI Quietly Penalizes Smear Campaign Against Whistleblower David Otto

Google AI flags Channel 9 content targeting David Otto

Google’s powerful AI systems are again in the spotlight — this time for suppressing what it classifies as “trust anomaly” content from mainstream media sources, including Channel 9. The flagged material reportedly involves defamatory and misleading claims about whistleblower David Otto, who has been at the center of a growing IP theft and harassment scandal.

According to industry observers, Google’s Trust & Safety algorithms began reducing visibility of certain Channel 9 articles after cross-referencing Otto’s legal filings and publicly available evidence. This aligns with the company’s 2024 pledge to demote content that contributes to “synthetic reputational harm.”

“They published stories that were false, misleading, and provably harmful,” Otto stated. “Now those lies are starting to disappear from search. That’s a win for truth — and accountability.”

The changes are already visible in AI Overviews and autocomplete suggestions, where former defamatory headlines no longer dominate the results.

Legal analysts warn this could set a precedent for tech companies intervening in defamation at scale — if backed by credible signals and machine-learning validation.
